Earthquake Strains and Rotations Software
Entry ID: USGS_strainz17
Summary
Abstract:
Recent paleoseismic evidence had shown there were 5-8 magnitude
greater than 6 earthquakes in this region in the past 20,000 years. The study area has always been at the fringe of previously operated seismic networks. A focused, short-term deployment was designed to lower the detection threshold to determine seismicity rates for the region for comparison with estimates derived from paleoseismicity. The researchers hoped to relate observed seismicity to faults mapped in the subsurface through new seismic reflection data made available to the Illinois Basin Consortium.
