Summary
Abstract: CHRONOS (Greek: time) is working with the Earth science community to develop a
dynamic, interactive and time-calibrated network of databases and visualization
and analytical methodologies for sedimentary geology and paleobiology. The
CHRONOS System provides a platform for modern, innovative Earth history
research, hosts and develops educational resources, and gives access to the
general public to new knowledge of Earth science facts and issues.

Description: Education and Outreach

CHRONOS has an important education and outreach component coordinated through
the Education and Outreach Advisory Group. The working group is open to anyone
who would like to become involved. It has a core membership that represents the
education and outreach coordinators of major national associations and
organizations (e.g., AGI, AGU, GSA, USGS, NASA, PRI, UCMP, DLESE) and science
initiatives (EARTHTIME, GeoSystems) who are actively working on the same issues
addressed by the CHRONOS System.

CHRONOS has been informally communicating with the community of geoscience
educators and working to find its niche in education and outreach. In the field
of Earth history and geologic time, museums (e.g., University of California
Museum of Paleontology, Paleontological Research Institute, National Museum of
Natural History of the Smithsonian, and the Denver Museum of Nature and
Science) and organizations (e.g., USGS, AGI, AGU) are actively working on
informal and K-12 education. CHRONOS offers to this community a broad spectrum
of data that document Earth processes through time, a broad base of scientists
working on the leading edge of Earth history research, and IT expertise.
