Abstract:
SPOT is a stand-alone tool that can be used to determine if HDF-EOS files are "subsettable" by UAH's HDF-EOS Web-based subsetter, HEW . To be subsettable using the HDF-EOS library calls, files must be structured in specific ways and must contain certain fields. SPOT checks the file for adherence to these rules. ... HDF-EOS file, which can be useful by itself if you just need to know the structure and contents of the file. SPOT also produces diagnostic messages in the form of warnings, errors, or terminal messages while it examines the file. If you are a data producer, this feature can be used to determine if the files you've created are internally consistent and properly formatted.
An add-on front end to SPOT, named "REGIS", will be of interest to sites who are hosting or plan to host the HEW Subsetting Appliance (HSA) which integrates subsetting with ECS order processing. This tool uses SPOT's HDF-EOS analysis routines to produce "registry patch" commands which can be input to RGYPATCH.
Binary versions for SGI/Irix 6.5 and Sun/SunOS 5.8 are available from the subsetting web site as gzipped tar files. The download links above will take you to the main SPOT directory on the UAH web site. Please read the COPYRIGHT and README files there. Documentation (installation and use instructions) may be found in the Version Description Document (VDD) which is available in Word XP and PDF format in the same directory. Consult the VDD for installation and use instructions. To download the version appropriate for your configuration, select one of the subdirectories (Sun, Irix) in the main directory. The "regis" script may also be found in the same subdirectories.
