Abstract:
American Fact Finder is an online service that allows users to to view, print, and download statistics about population, housing, industry, and business. Using FactFinder, you can also find U.S. Census Bureau products; create reference and thematic maps; and search for specific data.
Basic Facts provides access to popular tables and maps providing containing most frequently requested information ... from the 1990 Census and Census 2000. Detailed information for detailed geographic areas can be found in the Data Sets area.
Two types of tables are featured in Basic Facts:
1. Quick Tables focus on a few population or housing characteristics for a single geography. Choose individual tables for the U.S., states, counties, cities and towns and American Indian Areas.
2. Geographic Comparison Tables focus on a few population or housing characteristics for many related geographic areas. Each table shows multiple geographic areas in a list. Choose individual tables for the U.S., states or counties.
The Thematic Maps focus on a single characteristic for many geographic areas.
The Data Sets area provides access to the most detailed geographic and subject matter information available. Results from both censuses and surveys are offered. Each program area releases their data in one or more data sets usually over a period of time adding new subject matter or geographic detail as results are processed, reviewed and approved.
For each data set, statistical results are provided in both table and map format. The availability of each presentation format varies across data sets. Check the detailed descriptions for each data set in the Help on the top right of the banner or the icon next to the data set name. Also check Whatýs New or the Items of Interest for description and announcements of current releases.
-Decennial Censuses (collected in years ending in 0; 1990 and 2000 are available)
-Economic Censuses and Surveys (collected in years ending in '02 and '07; 1997 is available)
Use Reference Maps to create a map showing the boundaries of a Census geographic area or areas (such as a congressional district or census tract), as well as features (for example, roads or waterways) and other information.
Use Thematic Maps to create a map that graphically depicts statistical data, such as population, median income, or industry data.
The Items of Interest section provides links to data and information of current interest. These may include newly released tables or data sets, or descriptions of questionnaires. These items will change over time, as new products are released.
The FactFinder Data Sources provides more information about the censuses and surveys available through American FactFinder, and provides direct links to FactFinder pages where you can create tables and maps.
