Entry ID: RiverRun
Abstract: The River Run website is a dynamic visualization of water quality in the Lower
Cape Fear River. Dynamic graphing using a java applet and interactive mapping
through ArcView IMS enables users to visualize numerous water quality
The Data Visualization Tool (DVT) powerful utility for manipulating and
displaying water quality data in a dynamic ... interactive method. The tool
facilitates the exploration and examination of data on up to 13 water quality
parameters that have been collected along two river systems in Southeast North
Carolina: The Cape Fear River and the Northeast Cape Fear River. Data from both
rivers has been gathered from multiple sampling sites--11 on the Cape Fear
River and 4 on the Northeast Cape Fear River--over the course of several years.
This tool allows researchers to visualize the data by graphing data on up to
four water quality parameters simultaneously using three different display
(1) color graphing
(2) line graphs
(3) animated sequencing of graphs
The Interactive Geographic Information System Mapping Tool is organized into
several thematic sets of water quality data for the Lower Cape Fear River
Once you select a mapping view you will be in the mapping mode where you will
be able to turn on and off data layers, pan, zoom, and select features.
The themes in each view are organized so that the theme at the top of the list
is drawn on top of the others. Unchecking and checking the boxes next to the
names of the themes will draw them on the map on the right. Most data is
monthly from 1996 through May of 2000.
