Summary
Abstract: Maryland Shorelines Online is a coastal hazards Web portal developed by the Towson University Center for GIS (TU-CGIS) and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Coastal Zone Management unit. By centralizing information and data on shoreline and coastal hazards management in Maryland, the portal is a user-friendly resource for coastal managers, planners, educators, and the public. Maryland Shorelines Online offers distribution capabilities, Internet mapping tools, information about technical and financial assistance, and educational information, thereby helping Maryland maintain the rich cultural and natural resources associated with the state's coastal and shoreline areas. Interactive mapping tools enable users to view, display, and integrate physical, environmental, land use, and shoreline-specific data collected from various Maryland agencies. Metadata included with each data set can be viewed within the application when the data set is designated as the active layer.
