Summary
Abstract: The Pacific Disaster Center has launched a spatial information map service, the
Indian Ocean Geospatial Information Service, to support GIS data needs for
emergency managers responding to the disaster. It can be accessed by ESRI
Geographic Information System (GIS) applications. (Server URL: www.pdc.org;
Map Service name = "APNHIN_PDC_Tsunami_Response".) Additionally the Map
Service can be accessed via the web-based South East Asia and Indian Ocean
Tsunami Response Map Viewer:

"http://www.pdc.org/apnhintsu/html/apnhintsu-init.jsp"

The South East Asia and Indian Ocean Tsunami Response Map Viewer is intended to
provide an overview of the impact of the December 26th Sumatra earthquake and
the associated tsunami. The site and its underlying Map Service have been
created to support response and recovery efforts in the aftermath this
disaster, which has severely impacted countries in the Indian Ocean Basin. The
South East Asia and Indian Ocean Tsunami Response Map Viewer contains a number
of baseline data layers including Landsat imagery, SRTM-derived elevation,
coastlines, and major cities. It also contains event-related data including
damage extent maps and high-resolution satellite imagery.

South East Asia and Indian Ocean Tsunami Response Map Viewer GIS-ready
versions of the High-Res imagery are available for download through the map
viewer to authorized agencies.
