Hadley Centre Ocean Carbon Cycle (HadOCC) Model
Entry ID: HadOCC
Summary
Abstract:
The Hadley Centre Ocean Carbon Cycle (HadOCC) Model
The physics of the ocean is represented using the HadCM2. Single class of phytoplankton, single class of zooplankton, detritus, and nitrogenous nutrient used to simulate biological system, known as NPZD (Nutrient, Phytoplankton, Zooplankton, and Detritus) model, and two additional carbon components: dissolved inorganic carbon (taken up by phytoplankton growth and returned with biological breakdown) and alkalinity (used in calculating proportion of dissolved inorganic carbon in form of carbon dioxide in surface waters to calculate air-sea flux of CO2.). Each of six components making up the ocean carbon cycle are moved around ocean and simulated by the ocean physics.
