A DataBase of North American Waterfowl (Anatidae) Studies and Their Wetland Habitats
Entry ID: 01-Duck_Data-00
Abstract: (Summary adapted from the DUCKDATA web site)
DUCKDATA provides a comprehensive bibliography of published literature
concerning North American waterfowl, including references emphasizing wetlands
but having implications for waterfowl ecology, conservation, and management.
Literature selected for inclusion, primarly emphasises widely distributed
scientific journals, books, graduate theses, and ... natural resource agency
DUCKDATA also includes selected authoritative references on wetland ecosystems
to provide users with a convenient starting point for accessing this
literature. References to literature published on other continents or
concerning species and habitats not found in North America were included
whenever possible but were not actively sought and were limited to sources
published in English.
Users can perform online searches of author, title, year, and keyword or a
combination of these. A complete list of keywords is available in the website
via the Key Word Index link.
Quality DUCKDATA is under constant revision as new references are added and
bibliographic data are edited for consistency and accuracy. The date
of the most current version is listed on the DUCKDATA home page to
help you determine if your version is outdated. Please note that this
is the date on which data base files were updated and does not imply
that the bibliography is ... current to this date with respect to included
literature. Presently, the data base provides relatively complete
coverage through 1997 of over 150 periodical sources. Literature
published in the current year is added as soon as it is discovered.
Selection of key words for bibliographic entries was subjective but
followed certain basic principles. DUCKDATA tried to indicate at
least the general and specific subjects of each reference.
Access Constraints DUCKDATA is distributed via world-wide web and anonymous ftp servers, although
diskettes can be provided upon request to customers lacking Internet access.
Staff at the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS), Biological Resources Division
(BRD), National Wetlands Research Center (NWRC) in Lafayette, Louisiana, and
the USGS, Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, Vicksburg, Mississippi, are
pleased to make this data base available to interested users.
Use Constraints To download DUCKDATA files, users must have a decompression program such as
PKZIP (http://www.pkware.com/). Once decompressed, the files lose the .ZIP
extension and regain their original extensions.
The entire database can be downloaded and used with ProCite version 3.4 for
