The iziko South African Museum houses the most important crustacean (crabs, lobsters, shrimps, barnacles) collection in South Africa. Significant past contributions were made by K.H. Barnard, J.R. Grindley and B.F. Kensley (Crustacea).
It currently contains 5101 records of 274 families.
The data were derived from Map image provided by Malcolm Arnold (AAD winterer at Mawson 2004). Draft Mawson Buildings and Structures map was provided to Malcolm and he added features to the map, based on his handheld GPS and tape measure measurements. Malcolm provided this updated draft as an image. Relevant parts of the map were digitised by John Cox (AAD Science Drafting Officer), converted to GIS format and georeferenced using existing station GIS data.
Usually mapped to a Universal Transverse Mercator projection, Zone 41.
The data are included in the Australian Antarctic Data Centre's GIS data for Mawson Station which is available for downloading from the web (refer to link below).
