Abstract:
To better understand the relation between stable isotopes in snow and annual mean temperature, surface snow samples were collected and temperature of snow at 10m depth was measured once a day at each camp site. Surface snow of 2~3 years was sampled. In coastal areas the depth was ~1 m but in inland, the depth was shallower. 10-m snow temperature measurement was always coupled with the snow
... sampling for the stable isotope measurement. We used a non-sampling type auger to make a hole for the temperature measurement. We set a thermo sensor at the bottom of the hole and waited until next morning for the measurement. K. Fukui led field work. Sampling was done along a route connecting “Syowa – Mizuho – Dome Fuji – JASE Meeting Point (75°53’S; 25°50’E; 3661 m a.s.l.) – Dome Fuji – Mizuho – Syowa”. Snow samples will be analyzed for oxygen isotope measurements and deuterium measurement.
