Abstract:
A bathymetric map of Lake Fryxell was completed by drilling 28 holes through the floating ice and mapping the lake bottom. 13 cores were collected. The lake benthic sediment was cored for investigation. Three long cores were obtained from depths between 40 and 65m at Lake Vanda. 17 cores were sampled from Don Juan Pond. A number of algae samples were taken from fresh water streams draining into ... Don Juan Pond. A number of shallow lakes in the north fork of the Wright Valley were cored including 8 cores from Don Quixote Pond. A deposit of lacustrine carbonates were found 100m west of Lake Vanda and sampled for evaporite salt distribution studies. A number of short cores through the Pliocene Fjordal sediments exposed to the north of Lake Vanda were also sampled. All samples were analysed for dating.

The logistic report submitted to Antarctica New Zealand contains a table summary of the sediment cores obtained (Lake, Core number, waterdepth, core length and where the core is located (Waikato or JARE)). Please contact the investigator for more information.
