Geological mapping in the Lake Victoria and Lake Vida areas to allow basement rock types in this area to be correlated with the described intrusive sequence
Abstract:
The Dry Valley Drilling Project hole 6 from the western end of Lake Vida intersected Olympus Granite Gneiss and Vida Granite. Previous work on this area included uranium-lead dating analysis on core samples of both of these lithologies and subsequent investigations by other parties found that both the Olympus Granite Gneiss and Vida Granite consist of a wide range of lithologies of differeing genetic characteristics. Lack of detailed descriptions or mapping in the Lake Vida and Lake Victoria areas (Victoria Valley) prevents useful interpretation of this data. Two or three days were spent mapping rocks in the Lake Victoria and Lake Vida areas to allow basement rock types in this area to be correlated with the intrusive sequence constructed from the work of these earlier investigations.
