An integrated marine geophysical survey (multibeam bathymetry, chirp sonar, gravity and geomagnetic measurements, with seismic reflection) of the southern Adare Basin region. (R/V Nathaniel B Palmer cruise NBP0701)
Abstract:
A detailed integrated marine geophysical survey of the sourthern Adare Basin region and a series of detailed seismic transects across the Northern Basin, underlying the north-western Ross Sea continental shelf was conducted in a collaborative research investigation. The research program contributes to the understanding of plate tectonics, particularly the detailed development of the Ross Sector of ... the Southern Ocean, to understanding crustal rifting processes, and to the processes involved in the development of rifting across a oceanic-continental boundary. The survey was conducted from the R/V Nathaniel B Palmer research vessel. The Adare Basin survey comprised standard underwater marine geophysical measurements, including multibeam bathymetry, chirp sonar, gravity and geomagnetic measurements, with seismic reflection and sonobuoy based wide angle/refraction seismic measurements.
