Summary
Abstract: Blood flow and oxygen uptake at the gills of Antarctic fish was examined using an extracorporeal loop that links the blood supply of the fish between the ventral and dorsal aorta so that continuous sampling of pre gill (ventral aorta blood, deoxygenated) and post gill (dorsal aorta, oxygenated) blood could be completed. The resting levels of blood and the effects of adrenaline, acetylcholine and their agonists and antagonists on blood flow and oxygen uptake was determined. The effects of exercise on blood flow and oxygen uptake was also determined.
