Abstract:
Individuals of the Antarctic fish species Pagothenia borchgrevinki, Termatomus bernacchii, T. hansoni, T. Nicolai and Gymnodraco acuticeps were collected from several locations in McMurdo Sound and housed in an aquarium. Burst swimming performance was measured for each species using an accelerometer. A 50Hz video camera simultaneously captured the burst events and was used initially to crudely verify the swimming performance of the fist. Five burst swimming events were recorded for each fish after which the accelerometer was removed and the fish released at their site of capture.
