Abstract:
A system was established at the back of Botany bay to monitor chlorophyll a fluorescence from a thallus of Umbilicaria aprina continuously through the winter and the next season (lichen activity through an entire year). The system was powered by gel batteries enclosed in plastic containers and a solar panel mounted on an aluminium tripod to hold it above expected snow levels. Data was recorded between February 2001 and February 2002.
