Abstract:
The properties of the soils in the Walcott Bay/Brown Peninsula area was investigated (i.e. degree of soil weathering, nutrient contents, etc) to help determine if this is a source area for materials influencing the biology within the Ross Ice Shelf Project area. Soils were examined (pits dug and soils sieved) and soils and rocks were sampled from the glacial tills between the Howchin and Walcott Glacier in Walcott Bay and at a range of sites between the western coast and the higher inland knolls of Browns Peninsula.
Description:
The Ross Sea Region Soils database, run by Landcare Rsearch, New Zealand, stores information on soil site and soil pit horizon data from 35 years of soil studies by the investigators and their associates. There are >900 sites in the database but they are currently not sorted
