Abstract:
Geological investigations and mapping was conducted in the Mt Dromedary/Koettlitz Glacier area over two field seasons. Detailed geological mapping was conducted at a 1:50,000 scale. Sufficient samples of basement rocks were taken for an initial study of the regional geochemistry and radiometric dating. A petrologically significant contact between marble and gabbro was found near the Glee Glacier.
... This area was geologically mapped and samples collected for petrological and geochemical laboratory analysis. Magmatic feldspar-calcite-biotite assemblages and residual feldspar-nepheline-wollastonite-calcite rocks, were found and oxygen isotope analyses may allow an estimate of melting temperatures. A cross section of a dozen carbonate rocks were analysed for oxygen and carbon isotopes. They show good consistency and may allow an estimate of the age of deposition of the original limestones, independent of geological estimates.
