Abstract:
Target species Trematomus benacchii (n=72)from Cape Evans were collected live for the purpose of conducting a dose-response experiment in New Zealand on the live fish. Fish were dosed with different concentrations of PBDEs. Changes in fish physiology were measured using targeted molecular markers. An element of the study was interested in determining the suitability of T. bernacchii as a bio-indicator for future environmental monitoring programmes. Fish from Cape Evans (n=10) were also collected and harvested to add to fish collections whereby organic contaminant analysis is being conducted to ascertain changes in contaminant profiles from different locations of McMurdo Sound.
