Abstract:
Observations on coastal processes and geomorphic development were conducted at several beaches in the Ross Sea Region including Scott Island, Cape Adare, Possession Island, Markham Island, Inexpressible Island, Franklin Island, Beaufort Island, Cape Crozier, Cape Bird, Cape Royds, Cape Evans, New Harbour, Marble Point, Mowbray Bay, Terra Nova Bay, Granite Harbour and northwestern McMurdo Sound. At
... all beach sites (27 sites), data was collected on the height to which marine processes are currently active and where present the heights of raised beach ridges were surveyed. Heights were measured using an aneroid barometer which has a potential accuracy of plus or minus 1m. Vertical aerial photographs were obtained at the site of 6 major raised beach ridge complexes (Cape Adare, Cape Hallett, Possession Island, Foyn Island, Beaufort Island and Franklin Island) and used to make detailed landform maps and also mapping the penguin rookeries at these sites.
