Summary
Abstract: Barnacles are useful in palaeobathymetry and in palaeotemperature studies. However, barnacle plates are elusive in the field, and when fractured may be overlooked by the field geologist. The palaeoecology of Quaternary limestone’s in the Scott Base and McMurdo Sound area was investigated. The biota, especially the barnacles, of the Scallop Hill Formation, Taylor Formation, and any other associated ... View entire text

Quality During the second half of the cruise the use of the conical nets were discontinued. This cruise provides data from the first of six cruises, which provides a good coverage of the area over varying seasons and conditions.

Data collection: Three net types were used for the collection of species; rectangular midwater trawl (RMT8), bongo nets, and conical nets. Routine ... View entire text
