Abstract:
A spatial-distribution study of the meroplankton at Granite Harbour was conducted to add to the information on the distribution and abundance patterns of the meroplankton in the Ross Sea (previously examined at Cape Hallett, McMurdo Sound and Gerlache Inlet, Terra Nova Boy). Quantitative sampling was conducted for comparison to other LGP sites along the Victoria Land coast. Specimens of the marine invertebrate larvae were collected for morphological work and DNA sequencing. A spatial-distribution study of Granite Harbour was conducted to confirm that sampling from a single plankton hole provides a representative sample of the meroplankton at a particular location. Samples were collected from 4 sites at random, spaced 400m apart, parallel to Couloir Cliffs for 4 consecutive days (Wed-Sat) for 3 consecutive weeks.
