Abstract:
The weather data resides in 1 book, 'On the Meteorology of England, Southern
Scotland and Ireland Ending December 1851 to December 31, 1871' (C/de 100 g54).
The data contained in this book are tables of daily, monthly, and quarterly
surface weather data for England, Scotland, and Ireland over the period
1851-1871. Gaps occur during this period.
Tables include daily data, averaged over a period,
... for range of temperature.
Tables contain the following monthly data averaged over a period: mean
pressure, temperature, humidity, cloudiness, wind direction and speed,
evaporation, and dew point; mean maximum and minimum temperatures; absolute
maximum and minimum temperatures; deviation from normal for range of
temperatures, precipitation, evaporation, and dew point. Averaged individually:
number of days with temperatures under 32 degrees, between 32 and 40 degrees
and over 40 degrees; total precipitation; and the number of days with
precipitation. Tables contain the following quarterly data, averaged over a
period: mean pressure, temperature, humidity, cloudiness, wind direction and
speed, and evaporation; mean maximum and minimum temperature; range of
temperature; total precipitation; and the number of days with precipitation.
The following monthly observations were made: dates of occurrence of
thunderstorms, hail, fog, aurora, snow and rain, and solar and lunar
halos.
Scotland surface weather data resides in 16 books, 'Scotland Ministry of
Agriculture and Fishery. Agricultural Meteorology Report (1924-1931)' (C/de 50
Ao) The data contained in these books are tables and graphs of hourly, daily,
weekly, monthly, and annual surface weather data for Scotland from 1924 to
1931.
The tables contain hourly data for sunshine (percent of normal). Tables contain
the following daily data, determined individually: absolute maximum and minimum
temperatures and pressure; number of days with wind direction in each of eight
categories (E,W,N,S,SE,SW,NW,NE). Tables contain the following weekly data,
determined for a period: mean temperature; absolute maximum and minimum
temperature; total precipitation; deviation from normal for temperatures and
precipitation; number of days with precipitation. Tables contain the following
monthly data determined for a period: mean temperature, sunshine, humidity, and
dew point; and total precipitation. Determined individually: mean maximum and
minimum temperatures; absolute maximum and minimum temperatures; number of days
with temperature above and below 42 degrees. Graphs contain the following
weekly data, determined individually: yields of grass as a function of
meteorological conditions for years 1853-1927. Graphs contain the following
monthly data, determined individually: radiation records of sunshine for
1913-1926; variance of maximum and minimum temperatures for 1853-1927;
correlations between maximum and minimum temperatures for 1878-1926; and
average effect, in bushels per acre, of one additional inch of rain, on a
yearly basis for 1876-1926. Graphs contain annual data, determined individually
for total rainfall for the years 1853-1927.
These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection held by the
NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in this collection dates
back to the 18th century for daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual tabular
summaries, and the 19th century for weather maps. These data are the result of
foreign exchange agreements, but the collection has not been updated since
1983.
