Abstract:
The Australian wind data reside in 1 book, 'Seasonal and Diurnal Wind
Roses for Australia' (C/ie W765). The data contained in these books
are monthly maps for Australia for 1887 to 1937. The parameters
included in these maps are the following: isobars at 9AM; 3 PM
gradient wind; fog; duration of wet seasons; and limits of coastal
storms.
The synoptic Australian data resides in 122 books,
... 'Synoptic Weather
Chart-Australia Bureau of Meteorology Daily Weather Chart-Australia'
(Oversize Foreign Meteorology Data). The data contained in these books
are daily observation tables and weather maps for Australia and
neighboring areas for the period 1887 to 1967. The tables are only a
feature of these data until 1910. They are the 9 AM surface
observations for Australia, Tasmania, Wales, Queensland, and New
Zealand. The parameters included in these tables are maximum and
minimum temperature and rainfall. Maps include the following
information: winds, fronts, isobars, rainfall, and sea state.
Additional Australian wind data reside in 1 book,'Seasonal and Diurnal
Wind Roses for Australia' (C/ie AO24). The data contained in these
books are seasonal and annual maps for Australia averaged over the
period 1887 to 1937. The parameters included in these maps are the
following: seasonal mean isobars, isotherms, prevailing winds, and
isohyets; and annual isotherms and isohyets.
These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection
held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in
this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly,
seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for
weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange
agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
