Abstract:
The Luanda, Angola data reside in 2 books; 1) 'Resumo Das Observacoes Feitas
Durante o Anno De 1902-1910' (C/fe AO A-ob); and 2) 'Velocidade oe direccao de
vento dedozidas das sondagens aerologicas' (C/fe L592v), and is written in
Portuguese.
The first book contains tables of monthly weather data for 1902 to 1910. The
parameters included in these tables are the following: maximum, minimum,
... and
mean pressure, temperature, and relative humidity; and mean wind, evaporation,
and ozone. The number of days of rain, drizzle, lightning, thunderstorms, dew,
fog, and different amounts of clouds are listed, as well as the monthly total
rainfall. In addition, the mean monthly magnetic declination, inclination, and
intensity are tabulated.
The second book contains daily upper wind direction and speed data for each
month of the period 1933 to 1936. All observations for each book are from
Observatorio Meteorologico Magnetico 'JOAO CAPELO'.
The Beira, Mozambique data resides in 1 book, 'Resume mensal da obs ervacoes
meteorologicas na Beira' (C/ff AO P-br), and is written in Portuguese. The data
contained in this book are tables of daily weather averages. The following
surface parameters are included: mean, maximum and minimum pressure, air and
ground temperature, and surface winds; evaporation; ozone; rainfall; and
sunshine. The type and amount of cloudiness for three observation times and
daily surface wind frequency are also presented in the tables.
These books are part of the foreign meteorological data held by the NOAA
Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in this collection dates back
to the 18th century for daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual tabular summaries,
and the 19th century for weather maps. These data are the result of foreign
exchange agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
