Summary
Abstract: The Global Precipitation Climatology Project (GPCP) global
precipitation data set formally referred as the "GPCP Version 2.1
Combined Precipitation Dataset" supercedes the Version 1c data set and
is a merged analysis incorporating precipitation estimates from the
DMSP SSM/I microwave instrument, geosynchronous-orbit satellite
infrared data, and rain gauge observations. The dataset also contains
as "Intermediate Product" the individual input fields, a combination
of microwave and infrared satellite estimates, and error estimates for
each field. All the products are monthly averages provided on a 2.5
degree by 2.5 degree grid for the period 1979 to present.
