Abstract:
This set of CD-ROMs, produced by the NODC Ocean Climate Laboratory,
represents the first update of the previously released World Ocean Atlas
1994, and contains all the profile data contained in the NODC archives
as of the first quarter of 1994, as well as some of the data submitted
to NODC since 1994. In addition, data gathered as a result of the
IOC/IODE GODAR (Global Ocean Data Archaeology and
... Rescue) project, the
Global Ocean Database Project, and the Global Temperature-Salinity
Profile Project were included in this compilation. The World Ocean
Database 1998 also expands the WOA-94 by including the additional
variables nitrate, pH, alkalinity, chlorophyll, and plankton, as well as
all available metadata and meteorology. The WOD98 data are in a
compressed format, and are organized by WMO square. Within each WMO
square are nine files containing the data associated with each probe or
instrument type (except disc 5, since the data in BIO do not have
standard levels.)
The contents of the individual discs in this set are as follows: Disc 1
- Observed Level Data, North Atlantic 30-90 North; Disc 2 - Observed
Level Data, North Atlantic 0-30 N and South Atlantic; Disc 3 - Observed
Level Data, North Pacific 20-90 North; Disc 4 - Observed Level Data,
South and North Pacific 0-20 N, Indian; Disc 5 - Standard Level Data for
all Ocean Basins.
NOTE: Advanced programming skills are strongly recommended to use the data
contained on this CD-ROM product.
