Abstract:
The observations and climate data resides in 2 books, 'Annales De
L'Observatoire Meteorolgique de Universite Imperiale a Odessa' (C/db
Ao-O), and 'Observations faites a l'Observatoire Meteorologique del
l'Universite de Kiew (C/db AO-K47), both written in Russian and
French.
The data contained in these books are hourly surface observations and
daily monthly, and seasonal surface climatic data for
... Odessa and Kiev
in Southwestern USSR from the period 1892 to 1910. Parameters
included in the hourly observations are pressure, air, soil
temperature, humidity, cloudiness, sunshine, wind direction and speed,
and evaporation. Daily variables for each month, incorporated in
these data are the following: mean pressure, air and soil temperature,
humidity, cloudiness, wind direction and speed, and sunshine; maximum
and minimum pressure, air and ground temperature, and humidity; and
precipitation, evaporation, and sunshine totals;
Monthly parameters for each month contained in these data are: mean
air and sea temperature, humidity, cloudiness, wind speed and
direction; absolute maximum and minimum pressure, air and sea
temperature, humidity, and 24 hour precipitation amounts; number of
days of maximum and minimum temperature <0, clear skies, cloudy skies,
precipitation, precipitation of a certain intensity, snow, hail,
sleet, snow, fog, and strong winds; wind frequency; monthly snow cover
depth; maximum monthly mean of temperature; monthly maximum diurnal
amplitude; mean monthly oscillation of temperature; and frequency of
diurnal maximum temperature occurring at a given hour. Monthly
parameters averaged over the period include: absolute maximum and
minimum air temperature; mean pressure, temperature, and humidity; and
total wind speed. Seasonal parameters, for each year from 1892 to
1910, contained in this data are the following: mean pressure,
temperature, winds, and precipitation; and seasonal distribution of
wind direction at different hours of the day.
These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection
held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in
this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly,
seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for
weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange
agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
