Abstract:
Aspera is a new file transfer technology tool that provides a reliable and
faster (up to 1000x standard FTP) data transfer solution. This new approach
overcomes the challenge of large data set transfers over any Internet Protocol
(IP) network, regardless of network conditions and geographic distance.

Aspera uses standard
... UDP (User Datagram Protocol), an alternative to TCP where
guaranteed delivery is not required. Reliability is achieved in the application
layer "FASP", which retransmits the real packet loss on the channel.
The Aspera solution provides complete built-in security, precise transfer rate
control for guaranteed data delivery times, end-to-end transfer progress
reporting, and supports interoperable file and directory transfers.
