Abstract: The Ramsar Wetlands Data Gateway is a web-based application providing several ways for searching, retrieving and mapping data and information of Ramsar Wetlands of International Importance from the Ramsar Sites Database (RDB). Reports can be generated for each site as well as all sites within a country (contracting party). Output from the RDB can also be generated based on user-defined criteria ... related to the areal extent, date of designation, latitude and longitude of site center, physical attributes (salinity, soil type, persistence of water), wetland type and category, vegetation, land use, threats inside and outside site, site status and other related Ramsar site information. A map interface (Ramsar Map Viewer) for displaying Ramsar sites data and a link to Ramsar remote sensing case studies are also provided. The Gateway is produced in collaboration with the Ramsar Convention Bureau, Wetlands International and Columbia University's Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN). The purpose is to provide access to data and information relevant to wetlands of international importance.
