Abstract: The Man computer Interactive Data Access System (McIDAS) is a large, research quality suite of applications used for decoding, analyzing, and displaying meteorological data for research and education. The software can be used with conventional observational, satellite, and grid-point data. McIDAS has been in use and under continual development by the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) of ... the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 1972.
The Unidata version of McIDAS (a superset of SSEC McIDAS) has been under development since 1985 and in distribution since 1988. Unidata McIDAS-X is a combination of several packages developed at SSEC, the Unidata Program Center (UPC), and Active State. Unidata McIDAS-X also contains McIDAS applications developed at the UPC, Australian Bureau of Meteorology (ABoM), Colorado State University's Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA), and NASA's Johnson Space Flight Center (JSFC).
The Unidata Program Center (UPC) distributes McIDAS to Unidata member universities free-of-charge. Sites wishing to join the Unidata community must Register as a Unidata User. Questions about the registration process should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
