Abstract:
Zooplankton samples were collected using a twin-NORPAC net (mesh size: 330 μm and 100 μm, mouth diameter: 0.45 m), an ORI net (mesh size: 0.69 mm, mouth diameter: 1.6 m) and RMT 1+8 (mesh size: 330 μm and 4.5 mm, mouth area: 1 m2 and 8 m2) off Lützow-Holm Bay. The data were obtained during the cruise of TR/V Umitaka-maru in 2008/2009 austral summer. Zooplankton samples were immediately preserved in buffered 5% formaldehyde-seawater soloution.
Live animals were collected by using a ring net equipped with a 12 L cod-end bucket (Salp-net, mesh size: 500 μm, mouth diameter: 1.0 m) off Lützow-Holm Bay in the Southern Ocean. Specimens were used to examine metabolic rates (oxygen consumption rate, ammonia and phosphate excretion rates) and for video-recording of zooplankton. These experiments were conducted on board.
