Abstract:
These data consist of plankton and XBT data collected by the National
Marine Fisheries Service's Northeast Fisheries Center under the
direction of Ken Sherman. It is part of the MARMAP (Marine Resource
Monitoring Assessment and Prediction) program. The data are divided
into two parts. The first part is zooplankton data collected from
1977 to the present by a number of U.S. and international
... ships
cruising the continental shelf from Cape Hatteras to Nova Scotia.
The second part of the data is zooplankton, phytoplankton, and XBT
data beginning in 1961. Plankton data for the Gulf of Maine begins in
1961. New York Bight plankton and XBT data, and Gulf of Maine XBT
data began in 1977. This data were collected monthly. Parameters
pertaining to plankton in these surveys are: species identification;
life stage; abundance; and biomass. The first part of the data is on a
PC hard-drive, while the second part of the data is recorded on a VAX
magnetic disk. Both parts of the data are on a 9-track magnetic tape
in ASCII format.
