Abstract:
This experiment was started in 1938 at a site with a cool temperate climatic regime. The soil is classified as a Leptic Podzol (FAO). The rotations in the experiment are slightly different over the years, and consist of: in 1938-54 2 year rotation potatoes,spring barley; 1955-60 3 year rotation potatoes,spring rye,winter rye; 1961-84 6 year rotation sugar beet,spring barley,winter rye,potatoes,spring barley,winter rye; since 1985 6 year rotation potatoes,spring barley,winter rye,maize,spring barley,winter rye. Treatments are: PK,NPK+/-organic manure; 3 N levels, 2 levels stable manure,green manure,straw. The measurements made (data available), frequency, and methodology are listed below: a) Vegetation measurements made and frequency Yield: Yearly; Total above-ground dry matter: Yearly; N (since 1961) b) Soil sampling Details of soil sampling method: Soil auger; 20 samples/plot, mixed; every plot; 0-30 cm depth; years 1957,77,82,83,91,92,93. c) Soil measurements made and frequency Total carbon: Annual since 1965. Method of measuring total carbon: Wet combustion with K2Cr2O7. Atmospheric inputs: N in rainfall since 1982. d) Details of the meteorological station Nearest meteorological station to the site: Own station (Thyrow) which is 0 km from the site at coordinates 13deg18min E, 52deg28min N. The meteorological station is automatic. e) Meteorological data available and frequency Rainfall: Daily until 1992; 30 mins since 1992. Air temperature: Daily until 1992; 30 mins since 1992. Soil temperature: Daily since 1992; 30 mins since 1992. at 2-50 cm depth Wind speed: 30 mins since 1992. Sun hours: 30 mins since 1992.
