Abstract:
This experiment began in 1966 on a site that was originally steppe. Later, the crops at the site were maize,wheat,wheat (pea),maize. The land uses in this experiment are: Rotation 1 - wheat,maize,maize,pea; Rotation 2 - wheat,maize,maize,wheat; Rotation 3 - 4 x maize. Treatments: NPK fertilizers (20-40 treatments). The soil at the site is described as a Pelleaquert (USDA) Apl 0-23 cm: polygonal, granular layer, gradual transition to the next layer. A1 23-45 cm: humous, transition in the texture to the next (B) layer is gradual, structure becomes increasingly columnar, non-calcareous. B 45-60 cm: organic matter gradually decreases, non-calcareous, soil particles are columnar and glittering, ferric concretions, moderate quantities of rootlets. BC 60-80 cm: occurrence of ferric concretions and rusty (brown) gleyic spots, transition gradual. C 80-100 cm: moderately compact moist clay, small lime gravels, prismatic fragments, calcareous. Nearest meteorological station to the site: Debrecen. which is 40 km from the site. The meteorological station is manual. Variables measured are listed in the parameters section of this record.
