Abstract:

The wind data resides in 2 books, 'Die Hohenwindverhaltnisse uber Deutschland wahrend des Polarjahres' (C/dc K27), and 'Hohenwindmessungen durchgefuhrt von Schiffsoffiziefen der Deutschen Hondelsflotte Bearbeitet Vom Seeflugreferat der Deutschen Seewarte April 1930-Sept. 1931' (C/dc 100 H693), both written in German. The data contained in these books are tables of monthly upper wind data for Germany, Poland, and East Prussia from 1905 to 1933. The wind parameters included in the first book (C/dc K27) are monthly and seasonal upper air wind speed deviation from normal averaged over the period and seasonal mean upper air wind speed for each season and averaged over the period. There are maps of the mean annual wind at different levels for the winter of 1932-1933. The data contained in the second book (C/dc 100 H693) are hourly observations of the winds at all levels, including the surface. These data were taken in West Germany for the period April 1930 to September 1931 only. In addition, daily cloud observations are also included in the tables. These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
