Abstract:
BC Hydro is investigating the application of Green Energy technologies to electrical power generation in British Columbia. As part of this large study, Triton Consultants Ltd. has completed an initial evaluation of the feasibility of exploiting tidal current energy as one source of Green Energy. This study included five principal elements; - a detailed assessment of the tidal current resource available in BC, - preliminary tidal modeling studies, - case studies of one large (800 MW rated capacity) and one small (43 MW rated capacity) potential tidal current power site, including indicative energy costs, - an initial evaluation of environmental issues and - a review of selected tidal current technologies which are in various stages of development.
