Climatic data resides in 2 books, 'Das Klima des Konigreiches Sachsen'
(C/dc 320 L-wk), and 'Die Hauptsachlichsten Resultate aus den m den
Jahren 1864-1900 im Konigreich Sachsen Anstellten Meteorologischen
Beobachtungen', both written in German. The data contained in these
books are tables and maps of daily, monthly, and annual surface
climatic data for the Sachsen region of Germany from 1864 to
1890. Daily parameters for each individual month included in these
data are: ten-day number of wind direction hours; daily river water
levels; daily precipitation totals; and strong wind frequency.
Monthly parameters for each individual month are the following: mean
temperature, winds, pressure, and sunshine hours; mean maximum and
minimum temperature; absolute maximum and minimum temperature, and
precipitation total; evaporation totals; wind hours for different
categories; and number of days of frost, glaze, precipitation of a
certain intensity, absolute dry weather, snowfall, snow cover, hail,
sleet, thunderstorms, and precipitation periods. Monthly variables
averaged over the period, are: mean temperature, humidity, winds,
pressure, vapor pressure, and sunshine hours; precipitation totals;
rainfall; snowfall; mean maximum and minimum temperature, cloudiness,
evaporation; absolute maximum and minimum temperature, humidity, and
24 hour precipitation total; and number of days of frost, glaze,
measurable precipitation, thunderstorms, rainfall, sleet, snow cover,
and snowfall.
Annual parameters for each individual year incorporated in these data
are: mean temperature and cloudiness; absolute maximum and minimum
humidity, cloudiness, and precipitation; and evaporation totals.
Annual variables averaged over the period include: mean temperature,
humidity, cloudiness, winds, precipitation, and snowfall; absolute
maximum and minimum humidity; and mean precipitation.
In addition, for the second book listed, each of these variables is also
tabulated at different altitudes (50-1200m), and there is information on
summer and winter foliage development. Also in the second book, there are
maps and graphs of the following: mean isotherms; yearly mean of the vapor
pressure; yearly precipitation amounts; deviation of the temperature from the
annual mean; deviation of the precipitation from the annual total; and sunspot
and rainfall relationships.
Additional climatic data resides in 1 book, 'Das Klima von Sachsen Die
Orliche und Zeilijche Verieitung der Mittleren Lufttemperartur' (C/dc
320 L-wa) written in German. The data contained in these papers are
tables and maps of monthly,seasonal, and annual surface climatic data
for the Sachsen region of Germany averaged over the period 1864 to
1890. Monthly parameters included in the tables are: mean temperature,
wind direction, and wind speed for a given direction, and percent
frequency of wind direction and wind speed. The seasonal and annual
mean temperature is also tabulated. Maps included in these data are
monthly, seasonal, and annual mean isotherms, and vegetation periods
for the growing seasons.
These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection
held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in
this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly,
seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for
weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange
agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
