Abstract:
The MODIS Level-2G 1km surface reflectance data state QA (quality assurance) product (MYD09GST) is a restructured version of its primary input, the state QA data in MYD09_L2. This product summarizes the quality of the MYD09 products, specifically atmospheric and other correction states. The product contains quality assurance data pertaining to cloud and cloud shadow, land and water designations, aerosols, and the data source of corrections performed on the file. The data product contains three Science Data Sets (SDSs): reflectance data state, quality assurance, and the number of observations for each pixel. Data Set Characteristics: Area: ~10 degrees x 10 degrees lat/long Image Dimensions: 1200 x 1200 rows/columns File Size: 7 MB Resolution: 1000 meters Projection: Sinusoidal Data Format: HDF-EOS Science Data Sets (SDSs): 3 MODIS/Aqua Version-5 products are validated, meaning that product uncertainties are well defined over a range of representative conditions. Although there may be later improved versions, these data are ready for use in scientific publications.

Near real-time (NRT) data are available from MODAPS for certain Aqua and Terra MODIS L0, L1, L2, L2G, and L3 products. Whereas the standard MODIS forward processing acquires 2-hour L0 files for Aqua and Terra from EDOS within 7-8 hours of real time, LANCE-MODIS acquires session-based L0 files from EDOS and the end of the session is available within 10-30 minutes after real time.

Access_Instructions:
LANCE provides access to near real-time data (<3 hours from observation) from AIRS, AMSR-E, MLS, MODIS, and OMI instruments. Users, operational agencies and researchers utilize these products for a wide range of purposes (weather forecasting to monitoring natural hazards). These users often need data much sooner than routine science processing allows and are willing to trade science quality for timely access. Science quality products (28-48hrs latency) should be used for latency independent research and applications.
