The intent of this program is to make high quality, digital satellite
imagery data available to the National Weather Service's (NWS's)
Forecast Offices. This is being done in order to familiarize NWS
forecasters with the use and utility of this rich resource and in
anticipation of the eventual implementation of the Advanced Weather
Interactive Processing System (AWIPS), a substantial upgrade to the
present system for disseminating and presenting meteorological
information to forecasters. RAMSDIS is currently installed in over 60
NWS Forecast Offices and National Centers.
