Abstract:
-
This data set includes data on late Quaternary marine diamictons and
muds. Data sets include (1) major and trace element geochemistry, and
(2) diatom data in several formats
Geochemistry:
1. Major and trace elements (ICP-AES, ICP-MS) from Ross Sea sediment
2. 10-Be concentration in Ross Sea and Ross Embayment sediment, sub
ice stream sediment and glacial ice
Diatoms:
1. Diatom counts from Ross Sea and Ross Embayment sediment cores
(Sjunneskog and Scherer, 2004)
a. diatom species counts
b. diatom absolute abundance data (valves per gram dried sediment)
c. abundance of diatom fragments
2. Diatom abundance and fragmentation patterns resulting from
controlled compaction and internal shearing (Scherer, Sjunneskog,
Iverson, Hooyer, 2004a; 2004b)
Sjunneskog, C.S., and SCHERER, R.P., 2004. Mixed diatom assemblages in
Ross Sea (Antarctica) glacigenic facies. Palaeogeography,
Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, in press.
SCHERER, R.P., Sjunneskog, C.M., Iverson, N., and Hooyer, T.,
2004. Frustules to fragments, diatoms to dust: how degradation of
microfossil micro and nanostructures can teach us how ice sheets
work. Journal of Nanotechnology and Nanoscience, (in press).
SCHERER, R.P., Sjunneskog, C.M., Iverson, N., and Hooyer, T., 2004 An
index of diatom fragmentation from sub-glacial compaction and
shearing. Geology, 32(7):557 - 560.
