Abstract:
Presently, the Centre for Topographical Information in Sherbrooke (CTI-S) distributes nine different digital products, each meant for a specific use. They include: NTDB, Administrative Boundaries, VMap, Toporama, Canada3D, CDED, ADRG, URN, CDAL and CanImage. CDAL - the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) Data Alignment Layer, is a base of reliable georeferenced points available to geospatial data users for data correction. The CDAL points enable users to simultaneously display data from various sources and data produced at different scales or resolutions. The product is accessible free of charge via the Internet and enables integration of multiple source data. Provincial, territorial and municipal mapping organizations are encouraged to enrich the CDAL through the addition of reference points or complementary information that increases the positional accuracy of existing points. The CDAL includes easily identifiable points at various scales that can be used to georeference both raster and vector digital data from different sources. CDAL: - provides fast and free access to detailed information and accurate data that can be downloaded from our web site. - makes it easier to superimpose, integrate, and correct heterogeneous data. - promotes the harmonization of your data with other databases, including the National Topographic Data Base (NTDB). - opens a window on data from participating organizations. Point definitions include: - Road and railway network intersections. - Centers of lakes and islands. - Readily identifiable points (bridges, towers, lighthouses,etc.). Point Features include: - Unique identifier. - Longitude and latitude based on NAD83. - Elevation, horizontal and vertical accuracy, data validation date, supplier's name, etc. - Complies with ISO/TC211 standards. The CDAL coverage has: - Complete coverage of Canadian territory at 1:250,000. - About 50% coverage of Canadian territory (nearly all inhabited regions) at 1:50,000. - Other scales contingent on organization participation. To provide a common base for all producers and users of geospatial data.
