DATA ACCESS The OLR dataset is available upon request from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, CO ("http://dss.ucar.edu/pub/toga_coare/"). The TOGA COARE Data Information System is in charge of distributing all information related to TOGA COARE. Link to: "http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/coare/". BACKGROUND-TOGA COARE TOGA COARE was a multidisciplinary, international research effort that investigated the scientific phenomena associated with the interaction between the atmosphere and the ocean in the warm pool region of the western Pacific. The field experiment phase of the program took place from 1 November 1992 through 28 February 1993 and involved the deployment of oceanographic ships and buoys, several ship and land-based Doppler radars, multiple low and high-level aircraft equipped with Doppler radar and other airborne sensors, as well as a variety of surface based instruments for in situ observations. DATASET A 2.5 x 2.5 degree OLR dataset, compiled by Brant Liebmann from CIRES/University of Colorado, is available from the NCAR Mass Store (Dataset ds676.0). This dataset was put together from the NOAA Environmental Satellite Data Information System (NESDIS) dataset, filling in some of the existing data gaps. The time period covers 1974 through 1993. The files are in SUN binary and each file contains 1 year of data.
