Description:

Abstract:: This database contains collections information for the Paleobotany Collections of the Division of Paleobotany, Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Research Center, University of Kansas. The collection contains a large number of plant fossils from throughout the world, ranging in age from Precambrian to Miocene. The Antarctic collections include more than 3,000 specimens of permineralized peat from the Beardmore Glacier area, fossil wood from throughout the Transantarctic Mountains and compression/impression fossils from Permian and Triassic rocks in Antarctica. Also included are peels of permineralized specimens, >5,000 microscope slides of Antarctic material, palynology preparations, and photographs of specimens. Type and figured material from publications of new plant taxa from the Collections are also maintained. All are available for scholars to examine and study.
