Title: Thunderstorms and Rainfall in Bayern, Germany and its High Altitude Regions (1833-1925), and Daily/Monthly Precipitation for Bayern (1891-1933)
Description:
Abstract:
The thunderstorm data resides in 1 book, 'Ueber Zundende Blitze im Kongreich Bayern Wahrend Des Zeitraumes 1833 bis 1882' (C/dc 161 B) written in German. The data contained in this book are tables of daily and monthly thunderstorm data for the Bayern region of Germany from 1833 to 1882. The parameters included in these data are the following: five day mean of lightning flashes and mean number of daily and monthly flashes, averaged over the period; lightning flashes for each year of the record; number of thunderstorms for each individual year; and five day mean temperature averaged over the period. In addition, the years of sunspot maximum are mentioned in the book. The precipitation data resides in 3 books, 'Niederschlagsmessungen in unbewohnten Hoch lagen der Bayerischen Gebirge' (C/dc 160 H137n), 'Der Hochwasserregen im bayerischen Donau-und Bodenseegebiet in den Tagen vorm 29. bi 31 Jul. 1924' (C/dc 160 H137h), and 'Kurze Starke Regenfalle in Bayern ihre Ergiebigkeit, Dauer, Intensitat, Haugfigkeit und Ausdehnung' (C/dc 160 H137), all written in German. The data contained in these books are tables and maps of daily and annual precipitation data for high altitude regions of Bayern, Germany for 1891 to 1925, detailed precipitation charts for the heavy rainfall period July 29th to the 31st, 1924 and other rainfall episodes. A data parameter included in the first book is mean rainfall amounts. There are annual rainfall maps included in the back of this book. In the second book mentioned, there are rain amounts, intensities, and durations for selected hours of the heavy rainfall dates: July 29th to July 31st of the year 1924. There are also graphs of the amount and intensity of rainfall for the 3 day period, and isobaric maps for each of those days that were associated with the heavy rainfall episodes. In the third book, more rainfall episodes are tabulated with statistics about heavy rain amounts, intensities, and durations, including thunderstorm statistics. The mean annual frequency of rainfall is given for cities in Bayern. The daily and monthly precipitation data resides in 1 book, 'Ergebnisse der Niederschlags-Beobachtungen in Bayern' (C/dc 160 AO-e) written in German. In these summaries, definitions are: 1. Daily/monthly/seasonal/annual data - values determined for each consecutive period, e.g., monthly temperature data: Jan 1900, Feb 1900, Mar 1900, etc. 2. Long-term data - values determined over a period of years, e.g., long-term monthly temperature data using Jan 1901, Jan 1902, Jan 1903 etc. The data contained in this book are tables and maps of daily, monthly, and annual precipitation data for Bayern, Germany, from 1931 to 1933, and normals for the period 1901-1925. The tables contain the following data: daily precipitation totals; monthly total precipitation (1931-1933); and monthly mean precipitation (1901-1925). Maps and bar graphs contain the following data: monthly total precipitation; annual total precipitation; and deviation from the long-term mean (1901-1925) These books are part of the foreign meteorological data collection held by the NOAA Central Library in Washington, DC. Information in this collection dates back to the 18th century for daily, monthly, seasonal, and annual tabular summaries, and the 19th century for weather maps. These data are the result of foreign exchange agreements, but the collection has not been updated since 1983.
