Pacrain data are available at: "http://www.evac.ou.edu/pacrain/" The Environmental Verification and Analysis Center maintains a data base of daily rainfall reports for the Tropical Western Pacific Ocean. The Comprehensive Pacific Rainfall DataBase (Pacrain) contains daily rainfall observations from 1971 to present. It is updated monthly and includes data from the New Zealand National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Science, the French Polynesian Meteorological Service, and from the NOAA/National Climatic Data Center. Reports are supplemented by observations taken from the Schools of the Pacific Rainfall Climate Experiment (SPaRCE) program. The principal investigator on the project is Dr. Mark Morrissey. The project is funded by the NOAA Climate and Global Change Project. The area represented in Pacrain is between approximately 135 degrees E longitude to 125 W longitude and 30 degrees N latitude to 30 degrees S latitude. Observation locations include atoll and islands stations: the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Cooks, French Polynesia, Tuvalu, Tokelau and Kiribati. A technical report describing Pacrain is available from the Environmental Verification and Analysis Center. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- On October 21, 1998 the Environmental Verifification and Analysis Center at the University of Oklahoma announced a substantial update of the on-line availability of data and enhancement of retrieval features. The most recent update was October 21, 1998. Data are available for most stations through June 1998. The web site features an interactive webpage that allows you to select stations within selected time ranges, by observation site category (Islands, Atolls, or all), by latitude-longitude region, and by record quality (percent of observations present). The webpage also includes a java-based map which allows selection of stations through a point-and-click map. There is also recently added extraction software for the PC. You can download the fortran code and daily data files to your PC and use the same functionality of the interactive webpage. Zipped archives of all daily files are available for both PC and Unix machines. Monthly totals, calculated from the daily observations, are also available for download to PC or Unix machines.
