Abstract:
E4 - ORNL Landsat Land Use Classification The Southern Oxidants Study (SOS) conducted a major field research campaign in Nashville/Middle Tennessee area in June and July 1994 and 1995. The goal of this study was to improve scientific understanding of the processes that control the production and distribution of ozone in the troposphere. Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) data, acquired in 1991 and 1992, and field survey data were used to develop a classification image representing 12 land use categories for most of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory study area. The 12 categories include: loblolly pine, mixed conifer/deciduous, young/dense conifer, high-, medium-, and low-desity oak deciduous, shrubs and grasses, agriculture, water, bare soil, urban/paved, and unclassified. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was the coordinator for the 1995 Southern Oxidants Study Nashville/Middle Tennessee Ozone Study.
