System-wide Genetic Resources Programme, Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research
Data Center Description
The System-wide Genetic Resources Programme (SGRP) was created in 1994 to focus the CGIAR's response to dynamic and rapidly evolving practical and policy challenges in the realm of biodiversity. The SGRP promotes collaboration among the genetic resources activities of the 16 Centres of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR); these include Centre programmes on crop, livestock, forestry and aquatic biodiversity.
The SGRP provides the mechanism for the CGIAR to take an effective, united approach to the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity and related international plans governing the plant, animal, forestry and fishery sectors, including the Global Plan of Action (download in PDF ) for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (GPA) and the Global Strategy for the Management of Farm Animal Genetic Resources.
