Data Center Description
In English: The National Antarctic Data Center (CNDA) which includes the Spanish Polar Archive was formed by the initiative of the Spanish Polar Committee (CPE), which is in charge of the coordination of all of the activities undertaken by the National Antarctic Authority. CNDA has its headquarters in the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain. Among its tasks are the management of the metadata generated by Spanish investigations in the Antarctic and the storage, management and distribution of the metadata records all under the supervision of CPE.
The establishment of the National Antarctic Data Centers (CNDAs) is promoted by the system of the Antarctic Treaty, with the goal of contributing to the interchange of information and to a better development of Antarctic activities. In order to help the creation and coordination of the CNDAs, the Joint Committee on Antarctic Data Management (JCADM) was created as a common initiative of SCAR (Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research) and of COMNAP (Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programmes).
En Espanol: El Centro Nacional de Datos Antarticos (CNDA), que comprende el Archivo Polar Espanol se ha constituido por iniciativa del Comite Polar Espanol (CPE) que se ocupa de la coordinacion de todas las actividades correspondientes a la Autoridad Antartica Nacional. El CNDA tiene su sede en el Instituto Geologico y Minero de Espana (IGME). Entre sus cometidos estan la administracion de los metadatos generados por las investigaciones espanolas en la Antartida y el almacenamiento, gestion y difusion de los fondos documentales, todo ello bajo la supervision del CPE.
El establecimiento de Centros Nacionales de Datos Antarticos (CNDAs) es promovido por el sistema del Tratado Antartico, con el fin de contribuir al intercambio de informacion y a un mejor desarrollo de las actividades antarticas. Para ayudar a la creacion y coordinacion de los CNDAs existe el Joint Committee on Antarctic Data Management (JCADM), creado como iniciativa comun del SCAR (Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research) y del COMNAP (Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programmes)
